This policy covers the Android version of Korio distributed on Google Play. The iOS version is a separate build with a separate policy — see the Korio Privacy Policy for iOS.
Summary
Korio has no account and no Pentarab server that holds your learning. The dictionary, the grammar, and the audio ship inside the app, and what you study is written to your device. The only information that leaves the phone is the pseudonymous usage analytics described below, which never contains what you studied or anything you said.
Your Progress
- Which words and grammar points you have seen, marked, or got right.
- Your review schedule, streak, and assessment results.
- App preferences, such as playback speed and the voice used for examples.
This is written to a single file inside the app's own private storage directory, which only Korio can read. There is no cloud sync and no login, and there are no user-to-user features. Clearing the app's data or uninstalling the app deletes it.
The Microphone and Shadowing Practice
The shadowing drill compares how you said a word with how it should sound. Korio asks for the microphone permission the first time you use it, and only then — every other part of the app works without it.
- Recognition is requested with on-device processing required. Where the phone cannot do it on the device, Korio does not fall back to the network — the shadowing button is simply not offered.
- Korio does not record your voice to a file, does not keep an audio recording, and never uploads audio anywhere.
- What comes back is text, compared with the target word on the device and then discarded. The comparison result — whether the attempt matched — is what is kept as progress.
Speech recognition itself is performed by Android's system recognition service, which is part of the operating system rather than of Korio, and is governed by your device maker's and Google's terms.
Analytics
To understand how the app is used and to improve it, Korio sends usage events to an analytics service that Pentarab runs itself. It is not Google Analytics, and the data is not passed on to any third party. This is the complete list of what it receives:
- The app identifier, the platform, and the app version and build number.
- An install identifier — a random value the app generates on first launch. It is not derived from your device, your Google account, or any advertising identifier, and reinstalling the app produces a new one.
- A session identifier, so one run of the app can be told apart from the next.
- Screen names, and how long each screen was open.
- Feature and purchase-funnel events: that a drill was started or finished and how many items it held, that a paywall was shown and what opened it, and whether a purchase succeeded, was cancelled, or failed — with the product identifier.
- The UTC time of each event, plus your time-zone offset so local time can be reconstructed.
- Device information: operating system and version, screen size, and locale. The device model is not collected.
- A country, worked out by the receiving server from the connection itself — the app never sends it, and it is country-level only.
The service does not store your IP address. It is read at the edge only to derive the country and is then discarded. It collects no advertising identifier, no precise location, and no personal identifier such as a name, email address, or phone number. Your answers, your review history, and your microphone attempts are never part of an analytics event — event values are screen names, feature names, counts, and product identifiers only.
Korio does not collect the Android Advertising ID. Both advertising-ID permissions (com.google.android.gms.permission.AD_ID and android.permission.ACCESS_ADSERVICES_AD_ID) are explicitly removed from the app's manifest, so they are absent from the published build.
Subscription and Billing
Korio Pro is an auto-renewing subscription, sold monthly or yearly, processed by Google Play Billing. Pentarab does not receive or store your payment card details, your Google account details, or your billing address.
Everything Pro unlocks is already on the device, so there is no entitlement server of ours: Google Play's own record of the purchase is the only ledger there is, and Korio reads it from the Play Store app. Manage or cancel the subscription in Google Play › Subscriptions.
Permissions
Korio requests the microphone, only for shadowing practice and only when you first use it, and internet access, used for nothing but the analytics events above and for talking to Google Play about your subscription. It does not access your camera, photos, files, contacts, calendar, or location.
Children
Korio is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
