Korio has no accounts and no sign-up. What you study, how far you have got and how you sound stay on your phone. This page says exactly what is kept and what is sent.
What stays on your device
- Your study progress — every word you have seen, when it is next due, your streak, your daily goal and your placement result. It lives in a file inside the app and is never uploaded.
- Your voice. The pronunciation practice uses Apple’s speech recognition set to run on your device, so what you say is compared with the target sentence locally. Korio does not record audio to a file and does not send your voice anywhere.
- Downloaded audio for levels 3 to 6, once you fetch it. Deleting a level or the app removes it.
- Settings → Start over → Reset all data erases all of the above at once. Deleting the app does the same.
What we do collect
Anonymous usage analytics, so we can see which screens people reach and where the app is failing them. These events describe actions, never content:
- Which screens are opened and how long they are on screen.
- Which study sessions are started and finished, and where a paywall was reached from.
- A random installation identifier, the app version, device model, OS version, screen size and language. The identifier is generated by the app, is not derived from your device, and changes if you reinstall or reset your data.
- No words you studied, no answers, no audio, and nothing you typed.
Analytics are received by a service Pentarab runs itself — not Google Analytics — and are not passed on to any third party. Reporting happens only in App Store builds. Purchases are handled by Apple; we never see your payment details.
Notifications
If you turn on the daily reminder, it is scheduled by iOS on your device. Korio does not send push notifications and has no server that could.
Where the study content comes from
The graded word and grammar lists are published by 국립국어원, Korea’s National Institute of Korean Language, from its 2017 국제 통용 한국어 표준 교육과정 study, and are used under KOGL Type 1 with attribution. Every English meaning, example sentence and translation was written for this app. The full attribution is in the app under Settings → Where the content comes from.
Children
Korio is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Your choices
- Microphone and speech recognition are asked for only when you first use the pronunciation practice, and can be revoked in iOS Settings at any time. The rest of the app works without them.
- Notifications are asked for after the introduction, never at first launch, and can be turned off in the app or in iOS Settings.
- Because nothing is stored on our servers, there is no account to close and no export to request.
