Pentarab built Pizza Cutter, an iPhone app that records one short take and edits it into a looping video on the device. Two different things are worth separating in this policy, and this page keeps them apart: your video, which stays on your phone, and usage data about the app, which the app does send to Pentarab. Both are described below in full, field by field.
Your Video Never Leaves the Phone
Recording, the motion analysis that decides where the cuts go, the edit itself, and the export all run on your iPhone. Nothing about the footage is uploaded.
- Your take, the frames in it, and its audio are never sent to Pentarab or to any third party.
- The analysis that finds the moments you moved runs on the device; no frame is sent anywhere to be processed.
- The finished loop is written to the app’s own storage, and goes further only when you share or save it yourself.
- A recipe link carries the look preset and the names of the effects it uses — nothing else. It contains no footage, no still frame, and no audio.
- There is no account, no sign-in, and no profile.
Usage Data the App Does Collect
To see which parts of the app are actually used, Pizza Cutter sends usage events to an analytics endpoint that Pentarab runs itself. It is not Firebase, not Google Analytics, and there is no advertising SDK in the app. The data is not passed on to a third party. These are the fields an event can carry:
- An app identifier, the platform (iOS), and the app version.
- A random per-install identifier that the app generates on first launch. It is not the IDFA and not the IDFV, it is not derived from your device, and it is never linked to an account — there are no accounts. Deleting and reinstalling the app produces a new one.
- A session identifier, so events from one run of the app can be read together.
- Which screens were opened, and how long each was on screen.
- Event names — for example that a take was baked, or that a clip was shared. The name of the event, not the contents of what you made.
- The time of the event as a UTC timestamp, and your time zone offset from UTC.
- The iOS version, the device model, the screen size, and your locale.
- A country, which the receiving server works out from the connection itself. The app never sends your location, and does not ask for location access.
The contents of what you make are never included: no video, no frame, no audio, no thumbnail, and no recipe you shared.
What Is Not Collected
- No advertising identifier (IDFA). Pizza Cutter shows no ads and presents no App Tracking Transparency prompt.
- No precise or approximate location from the device, and no location permission is requested.
- No contacts, no calendar, and no browsing history.
- No contents of your photo library. The app’s photo access is add-only — it can save a clip, it cannot read your library.
- No name, email address, phone number, or any other personal identifier.
- No tracking of you across other companies’ apps or websites, and no data is sold or shared with advertisers or data brokers.
Permissions, and Why Each One Is Asked For
- Camera — to record the take. Without it the app has nothing to cut.
- Microphone — to keep the take’s original sound. You can decline it, or mute the take, and the app still works.
- Photos, add-only — asked for at the moment you tap Save, so the finished clip can be written to your library. This level of access cannot read what is already there.
Every one of these can be changed later in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security, or under Pizza Cutter in iOS Settings.
Purchases
The paid plan is sold and processed by Apple. Pentarab never sees or stores your card details, your Apple Account, or your billing address — the app only learns from Apple whether an entitlement is currently active, and keeps that answer on the device. Promotional and offer codes are redeemed through the App Store, so Pentarab never receives them either.
Your Choices
- Deleting the app removes your takes, your loops, and the install identifier from the device. Reinstalling starts a new identifier that cannot be joined to the old one.
- You can deny the microphone and photo permissions and keep using the app.
- For any question about the usage data above — including a request to delete what is associated with an install identifier — email us at the address below.
Children
Pizza Cutter is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them. It has no accounts, no messaging, no public posting, and no advertising.
Changes to This Policy
If Pizza Cutter changes what it collects, this page and the date above will be updated before that version ships.
