Pentarab is building the PhotoDiff app — a photo comparison tool for iOS. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app handles and how your privacy is protected.
Privacy First Approach
PhotoDiff processes your photos entirely on your device. Photos you select for comparison, the comparisons you save, and any edits you make never leave your device.
To improve the app, PhotoDiff does collect pseudonymous usage analytics (described in the Analytics section below). This never includes your photos or face data, is not used to track you, and is not linked to your personal identity.
Information You Provide
To compare photos, the app reads images you explicitly select from your Photo Library. PhotoDiff requests Photo Library access only at the moment you choose photos, and only the images you pick are loaded.
- Photos you select for comparison
- Alignment, mosaic, and brightness adjustments you apply
- Saved comparison projects
All of this stays on your device and is used only to render and save your comparisons.
Face Data Processing
When you compare two photos, PhotoDiff may use Apple's on-device Vision framework to detect face features (a face bounding box and eye landmark positions) in the photos you have selected. This is done solely to align the two photos so that corresponding features overlap accurately, and, when you enable the optional Face mosaic mode, to apply a privacy mosaic over detected faces in the displayed or exported comparison.
- What is processed: a face bounding box and eye landmark coordinates derived from the photos you have selected.
- Where: entirely on your device, using Apple's on-device Vision framework. No face data is ever transmitted off your device.
- Purpose: photo alignment for comparison, and an optional on-device face-mosaic privacy filter you can enable.
- Sharing: face data is never shared with Pentarab, with any third party, or with any server.
- Storage and retention: face data is held only transiently in memory during alignment or mosaic computation and is discarded immediately afterward. It is not written to disk, included in saved projects, or retained in any form.
PhotoDiff does not use face data for identification, authentication, advertising, analytics, or any purpose other than the on-device alignment and optional mosaic features described above.
Data Storage
The app stores the following information locally on your device:
- Comparison projects and edits
- App settings and preferences
All this data is stored using iOS secure storage and is automatically deleted when you uninstall the app.
Analytics
To understand how the app is used and to improve it, PhotoDiff uses Google Firebase Analytics. This collects pseudonymous usage data — such as which screens you view and which features you use — along with a device-level identifier (a Firebase app-instance ID).
This data is not used to track you across other companies' apps or websites, is not linked to your personal identity, and is not shared with data brokers. PhotoDiff does not collect the Advertising Identifier (IDFA), so no tracking prompt is shown. Analytics is processed by Google — see Google's Privacy Policy.
Third-Party Services
Aside from Google Firebase Analytics (described above), PhotoDiff does not use any third-party advertising services or external SDKs that collect your photos or other personal content.
Your Data Control
You have complete control over your data:
- All photos and projects stay on your device
- You can delete individual projects in the app
- You can revoke Photo Library access at any time in iOS Settings
- Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data permanently
Security
Your photos, comparisons, and projects are stored locally on your device, so your data security depends in large part on your device's security. We recommend:
- Keeping your device password-protected
- Using iOS security features like Face ID or Touch ID
- Keeping your iOS updated with the latest security patches
Children's Privacy
PhotoDiff is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through the app, please contact us so we can address it.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
